Research

An important area of activity of the International research unit Disability Studies is the development and running of individual research projects. The projects focus on the following research fields:

  • Norms, normality, normalisation, and disability
  • (Disabled) bodies, knowledge, and bio-power
  • Social policy and disability policies in Germany, the European Union and globally
  • Disability rights movements, disabled people’s organisations, and international comparisons of the political participation of disabled people
  • Intersectionality Studies, Diversity Studies, and Gender Studies with reference to disability
  • Disability history
  • Discursive and symbolic representations of disability in culture, science, arts, and the public sphere
