International Conference in Disability Studies at the University of Cologne

Today, disability is understood as a multidimensional phenomenon, specific construction, and multifaceted field of research that is researched internationally, comparatively and across disciplines. In Germany, Disability Studies is a relatively young field of research. In international and European countries, on the other hand, there is a longer, extremely diverse research tradition. For the first time in German-speaking countries, ALTER, the European Society for Disability Research, based in Paris, is organising its 8th Annual Conference 2019 at the University of Cologne.

ALTERconf: 7th Annual ALTER disABILITY Mundus Doctoral School

September 1-4, 2019

This year’s doctoral school, (Self)Representing disAbILITY, is linked to the 8th Annual Conference of ALTER-ESDR’s theme: Histories, Practices and Policies of Disability: International, Comparative and Transdisciplinary Perspectives, which is linked to disABILITY MUNDUS, a group of European academics and universities who are actively engaged in and support scholarly research on disability. It takes place in cooperation with the University of Cologne, The Graduate School of the Faculty of Human Sciences, and iDiS, the International Research Unit in Disability Studies.

CfP: ALTER Conference 2019

Histories, Practices and Policies of Disability: International, Comparative and Transdisciplinary Perspectives

Cologne, Germany, 5 – 6 September 2019

Researchers are invited to submit abstracts for the 8th Annual ALTER Conference before 20 January 2019. It is possible to submit individual abstracts or suggest organising a session of three presentations focusing on the same theme. We particularly encourage comparative, interdisciplinary and international sessions. Researchers wishing to suggest a session are invited to submit both an individual abstract of their paper and an abstract describing the joint session and its participants.

CfP: ALTER Young Author Prize 2019

This call for articles is for all doctoral students or young researchers who have completed their PhD within less than five years of the date of submission of their articles.

Proposed articles, written by a single author, will be examined by a jury composed of members of the editorial board of the journal and of Alter Association’s board of directors. 

The prizewinner’s article will be published in the journal. The laureate will be invited to present his work at the 8th Alter’s European Conference (5th-6th of September 2019, in Cologne, Germany) as keynote speaker.
